Live the present moment wisely and earnestly.

Asthma

Asthma is an inability of the “sacs” (bronchioles) in the lungs to dilate or open up, so there is a lack of oxygen that is normally achieved with full “opening” through deep breathing.

It is commonly treated with adrenaline (adrenergic: stimulate adrenals) or caffeine (Xanthine: stimulates brain) type drugs to stimulate bronchodilation, or corticosteroids which stimulate adrenal gland activity producing adrenaline, or through anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine drugs. It is most commonly treated with a couple or more of these in combination.

The stimulators are basically increasing the “stress” response to the lungs, which causes the fight or flee response, which in the lungs is bronchodilation or more air/oxygen. Does that mean you do not have enough stress in your life? Probably not, but it does mean that the lungs are stuck in a “rest” response, as a result of either depleted adrenal gland function, or depleted natural reserves to produce adrenaline or noradrenaline.

So, proper nutrition and care for the adrenal glands will reset this function. In order to produce adrenaline and noradrenaline biochemically the body uses protein (tyrosine) and B vitamin/mineral cofactors. If you really wish to produce a lot of this, then supplement higher than normal doses and you will literally force the production.

The adrenal glands can be stimulated into action using nutrient and herbal products such as licorice, ginseng, and pantothenic acid. And, you will want to uncover how your adrenal glands got depleted.

Your adrenal glands are your stress glands, and are closely linked to the brain and its response to stress. The main chronic stressors are emotional stress (like abuse), sugar handling stress (diabetes or syndrome X), immune stress (chronic infection or allergy), and physical pain.

The only stress I haven’t addressed elsewhere on this site is immune stress. The most common stressor of the immune system these days is not pollen…not cats…not even food allergens, rather the immunizations and antibiotics given to children under the age of two. That is not my opinion. That is research from the National Library of Medicine.

A functional condition called “Switching” has been observed in young immune systems as a result of these practices, and aggravated by the use of trans fats, exposure to cigarette smoke, lack of omega-3 oils such as fish oil, and lack of antioxidant intake from fruits and veggies. Switching results in a conditioning of the immune system to over-react to various environmental triggers such as pollen and dusts. The chemical effects of this over reaction will produce such sustained stress to the body, that your “stress” glands become fatigued, depleted, or exhausted.

This condition results in a significant shift toward auto-immune disorders such as asthma, allergies, and even MS. For many kids the shift is permanent and is only controlled through high dose fish oils, and eating massive amounts of antioxidant fruits and veggies. It also helps to get your spine adjusted and to get dirty (rushing to sterilize and sanitize actually aggravates this condition), according to the research.

If this is your unfortunate reality (as it is mine), it can be managed. We have a dog and cat…I live drug free during the highest pollen counts…I do react occasionally, but I can soothe my immune system fairly well using fish oils and Vitamin C. I periodically support my adrenal glands, take a “greens” drink daily, and eat plenty of antioxidant rich berries, juices, and veggies.

Back to the meds…the blockers (Anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine drugs) can also be replaced naturally, which was discussed here: ALLERGIES LINK
